Pinellas Schools to Remain Closed Week After Spring Break

Pinellas County Schools announced that public schools will be closed the week after spring break, March 23 to 27.

PINELLAS COUNTY, FL — Following the direction of the Florida Department of Education, Pinellas County Schools announced that public schools will be closed the week after spring break, March 23 to 27.

The school district is on spring break from March 16 to 20.

The school district said it will keep parents and students informed about the availability for online learning during this additional week of no school.

Additionally, all extra-curricular activities are canceled during this time period.

The school district said it will take advantage of the empty classrooms to do a deep cleaning at all the schools.

The FDOE announced this week that statewide assessments scheduled during the first week of April will be postponed to later dates yet to be announced.

Following the extended spring break, Pinellas Schools has established a procedure for any student, employee or staff member who needs to come to a school and has traveled out of the country or taken a cruise.

Students or staff members who travel anywhere out of the country or on a cruise must self-isolate for 14 days upon return, the typical incubation period for coronavirus. In addition to the regular procedures for reporting an absence, the school district is requiring that students and staff call their principal to report a mandatory self-isolation.

For updates on the impact of the outbreak, students and parents should visit Pinellas Schools’ website.
