Community Champion Leads Neighborhood Cleanup
For the past three years, Amy Ferguson has personally hosted quarterly cleanups of Bayhead Pond.
From The City of Largo: The City of Largo is happy to celebrate community champion, Amy Ferguson. For the past three years, Ferguson has personally hosted quarterly cleanups of Bayhead Pond with a friend or two picking up litter ranging from plastic bags, bottles, balls, straws and more. She is now reaching out to invite others in her community to join in the effort.
The City provided trash bags, nets, and kayaks for assistance with the lake cleanup and is encouraging other communities to unite to clean up their blocks. Community Outreach Coordinator, Brenda Clark said, “The city is very encouraging of neighborhood-led efforts as this reflects community pride and ownership in a community.” City of Largo Housing Specialist, Arrow Woodard commented: “I didn’t know that Amy was doing this on her own every quarter, and I’m happy to volunteer my time to help as this is my neighborhood too.”
Amy’s next cleanup will be held on April 13th at 9 am. Neighbors are invited to meet up at the outbuilding near the volleyball courts. Ferguson said that she plans to get the word out with flyers and the Nextdoor app so she can meet others working to improve the community. Neighborhoods interested in organizing their own neighborhood cleanup efforts are encouraged to contact Largo’s Community Outreach Coordinator by emailing connect@largo.com.
